The forest is a complex and ever changing environment. It provides numerous ecological, economic, social and cultural values to people locally, nationally and globally. Forest stewardship strives to ensure the maintenance and enhancement of the long-term health of all aspects of the forest, which includes sustaining functional forest ecosystems and ecological processes, maintaining and enhancing wildlife habitat, protecting water quality and fish habitat, while providing and maintaining the numerous values and economic opportunities for present and future generations. |

We believe that the best decisions about the forest stewardship are made by the people who live, work and play in the forest. Therefore, all our forestry operations are planned in partnership with local communities so their values and needs are maintained. We use this information to develop our various Forest Management Plans, which the Manitoba Government reviews and approves before harvesting, access development and renewal activities can occur. These plans outline at various landscape and time scales how we plan to manage the Forest Management Licence (FML 01) to ensure the long-term sustainability of the forest ecosystem and maintenance of forest values. Below is a list of the different Forest Management Plans we produce, please follow their links to learn more. |
| Forest Stewardship Plans (FSP)
The FSP is a strategic long-term sustainable plan, for the Forest Management Licence area, that is developed with input from First Nation and local communities and in consultation with the general public. The FSPs over-arching goal is to conserve ecological integrity, long-term forest productivity and biological diversity of the ecosystems, while providing an ecologically sustainable flow of natural resources and ecosystem services. The Plan describes at a landscape level the forest resource values involved, the forest management process and operating practices to be used, the long-term harvesting, access and forest renewal activities proposed, and results of a sustainable wood supply analysis. The FSP covers a period of 20 years of the company’s activities, but through computer models, also accounts for important features such as wildlife habitat over time spans of more than 200 years.
Road Management Plans (RMP)
A RMP is a strategic long-term road development and access management plan, for designated Operating Areas within the Forest Management Licence area. As with the FSP, they are developed with input from First Nation and local communities and in consultation with stakeholders and the general public.
Annual Operating Plans (AOP)
An AOP is an operational plan that implements the strategic goals and objectives set out in the FSP and RMP’s and is developed with input from First Nation and local communities and stakeholders. It clearly identifies and describes, in detail, where and how harvesting, access development, and forest renewal activities will take place for the current year. |
