2010-2029 Forest Stewardship Plan

Tembec has prepared the 2010-2029 Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP), which is scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2010. The 2010-2029 Forest Stewardship Plan and related Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) have been submitted to Manitoba Conservation for public and technical review, First Nation consultation and subsequent approval and Manitoba Environment Act licensing. The FSP has been developed following Manitoba’s Submission Guidelines for Twenty Year Forest Management Plans and in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), National Boreal Standard and Tembec’s Environmental Management System. Management objectives have been established to guide the development and implementation of the FSP as provided in Section 5.2 and are summarized as follows:

  • Seek advice from communities
  • Maintain a range of old forests
  • Maintain 20% of the forest in large blocks
  • Maintain habitat for wildlife
  • Retain clumps of trees within harvest areas
  • Maintain Species at Risk
  • Use herbicides sparingly
  • Plan at a watershed scale
  • Harvest at sustainable levels

The determination of sustainable harvest levels was performed by Manitoba Conservation. The FSP utilized the analysis performed by Manitoba Conservation and incorporated the management objectives in a spatial depiction of the results. The Manitoba Conservation and Tembec analyses are contained in Section 4 of the FSP.

The FSP and EIS are provided below in their entirety for review and download. Many of these files are large and will be very difficult to open or download without high speed internet. Upon request, Tembec will provide a printed copy of the Executive Summaries of the FSP and EIS accompanied by a CD of both documents in their entirety.
