Tembec’s mill, located in Powerview - Pine
Falls, Manitoba, has been manufacturing newsprint since 1927. Forest
Management Licence 01 was established in 1979, under an evergreen
agreement with the Province of Manitoba, to ensure an everlasting
wood supply to the mill through the Company’s sound stewardship
activities on the land. The FML is located in Canada’s Boreal Forest
and is approximately 900,000 hectares (9,000 square kilometers) in
size. It is bordered by Lake Winnipeg to the west, the
Manitoba/Ontario border to the east, the Winnipeg River to the south
and Atikaki Wilderness Park to the north. The FML is dominated by
Pine and Spruce forests interspersed with bedrock outcroppings and
peat land areas.
